Next, we will look at the most successful examples and principles of creating tropics at home. We will also consider the most successful tropical-themed wallpapers that will help you create the necessary atmosphere.

Features of Tropical Style in the Interior

Tropical style in the interior is based on a mixture of different cultures and traditions; it harmoniously combines ethnic motifs and flavors of Brazil, Oceania, equatorial Africa and Southeast Asia. It is well suited for decorating a living room or bedroom, hallway or nursery, kitchen or bathroom.

The main features of the tropical style in the interior include:

  • Bright wall decoration. Colorful prints and wallpapers are usually used to create an exotic atmosphere. Paintings, panels, ceramic tiles, and mosaics with images of the tropical jungle and the underwater world are also very popular.
  • Wicker furniture. Chairs and tables made of rattan or bamboo can be complemented with sisal mats and carpets, and several straw hats can be hung on the wall.
  • Exotic house plants. Lush equatorial greenery occupies a significant part of the space. Preference is usually given to crops with large leaves: palm trees in large tubs, vines, orchids, and other heat-loving representatives of overseas flora.
  • Shutters or blinds on windows. In a tropical climate, they protect rooms from the scorching rays of the sun, and in our area, they are part of the exotic decoration of rooms.
  • Ceiling fans. Although these devices have long given way to air conditioners, they help create the atmosphere of a quiet and peaceful bungalow, hidden away from civilization.

It is better to hide massive wardrobes and chests of drawers behind wicker partitions, and dark wooden beams should be left exposed on the ceiling. The bed in the living room can be wrapped with a white mosquito net to create something like a canopy. The main finishing material is wood, including exotic hardwoods, and glass and plastic are practically not used in this interior.

History of Tropical Style Interior

The history of tropical style in the interior goes back centuries. In a hot and humid climate, residents of the equatorial region tried to make their homes as comfortable as possible for living. They wove furniture and carpets, decorated rooms with exotic plants, and covered windows from the scorching heat.

During the era of great geographical discoveries, Europeans made a significant contribution to the development of the tropical interior style. They built spacious stone houses in the colonies, trying to recreate the atmosphere of their homeland in them, but were forced to take into account the local climate. The fusion of European and local traditions resulted in an original tropical style, but it remained regional for many centuries.

Only at the beginning of the 21st century, in the wake of increased interest in exotic countries, the tropical style gained wide popularity in Western Europe and the USA. Upon returning from trips to exotic countries, many people had a desire to create an atmosphere of rest and relaxation at home. Over the course of several decades, the original interior style with the characteristic features of bright sun, lush vegetation, and a warm sea was finally formed.

The tropical style of the interior can be easily recreated not only in a country house but also in an ordinary apartment. It is deservedly in demand among people of different incomes, ages, and social status.
